LIFE OF PI
INSPIRATION FOR RADIO PLAY
For some children, the experience of reading may not be possible due to physical disabilities and vision impairments.
With radio plays such as the one that we have created, our group intends to make this experience enjoyable and more realistic. Radio plays offer children and adults the allusion of being a part of the story, of being present when their favourite scene in the novel takes place.

In our radio play interpretation, we have included sound effects and music that reflects the parts of the novel that are being spoken. For example, in Life of Pi, there is a scene in which Pi's mother is killed. For this scene, quiet music is used to create a sense of sadness and despair. The music and the sound effects coupled together are capable of animating the novel in an audio format. People are able to listen to their favourite stories or in the case of this radio play, listen to a modified interpretation for Life of Pi.

Radio plays are a breath of fresh air to the world of audio tapes and sound recordings that allow listeners to engage themselves in not only the words of the reader but the sounds of the moment. They give life to stories within the parameters of the traditional auditory industry.
