LIFE OF PI
PROCESS: THE UPS AND DOWNS OF TEAM WORK
There are many advantages and disadvantages to working in a group. During the production of this culminating assignment, we encountered many of these ups and downs. This section describes the journey that we went through from start to end and talks about the challenges and benefits of working in a group.
The project began on May 1st 2012. The first library period that we worked on the Culminating Activity, we were to create our groups. Each team member was selected because they had certain skills and traits that would combine to create a well-rounded work group. Our team already had the topic of Man and the Natural World in mind during the first stages of the project so choosing a theme was not a problem.

Our team went through a few possible methods of presenting our work and finally settled on making a radio play. We decided to use the program Audacity (available on TDSB computers) because two of our group members were familiar with this program. Our team was hindered by a few challenges along the path to the finish. One being the tendency of our team members to get distracted from the task on hand very easily. This, along with a susceptibility to procrastination caused our group to delay working on the assignment.

Several planned group work sessions and library periods produced nothing but a few analyses yet no concrete work on the radio play. Our team was just too distracted until the point where it became evident that if we didn't start, we would never finish. This, of course, would mean a bad mark (which was unacceptable to the team members who have high standards).

Finally, our group got to work pushed under the constraints of time. We came up with a script that was based off the book which was then recorded. The story features four characters during Pi's nautical voyage, which is also happens to be the number of people in our group. However, one of the characters, the sailor, doesn't say anything at all. This makes the number of characters only three. To make sure that each group member had a defined role in this culminating activity, three members of our group recorded parts of the script while the fourth edited and added music to produce the final copy.

Near the end of the allotted time, our group decided to then create a website because we felt that extra effort could be put into the project. The website allowed the group to showcase the thoughts and discussions that happened during the creation of our Culminating Assignment.
